1 2 Pune: A team of Pune rural police on Sunday afternoon traced the bodies of a 36-year-old woman and her partner, who jumped into a canal of the Dimbhe dam at Vitthalwadi in Ambegaon taluka, about 90km from Pune, in the early hours of Saturday. "The bodies have been sent for the post-mortem," an officer from the Manchar police told TOI. He said that the incident happened around 5am on Saturday when the woman, her 13-year-old cousin, and her partner were returning to their village in Khed taluka.

"On the way, the woman and her partner had heated arguments over some issue. In a fit of rage, the woman went towards the canal and jumped. Her partner gave his wallet and cellphone to his partner's cousin and jumped into the waters to save the woman," the officer said.

The officer said that the cousin thought both of them would come out as they knew swimming. The duo, however, was swept away because of the current in the water. "When they did not come out of the water, the girl got terrified and took shelter inside a shed of a farmer, who stays nearby," the officer said.

"We carried out searches in the water since Saturday morning. Due to the flow of the water, the search team faced difficulties. We then requested the irrigation department to reduce the water discharge in the canal," he said.

The officer said that the woman and her partner's bodies were found on Sunday afternoon. "The woman was separated from her husband and was living with her parents. She was in a relationship with the man.

She and her cousin left their homes on Friday to visit a fair in Kadus village," the officer said..
