Jasper County Supervisors have agreed to contribute $8,000 to get more EMTs trained across the County. Jasper County Emergency Management Agency Director Jamey Robinson made the funding request as part of a countywide EMS affiliation. “One of the things we are looking at doing is an EMT class to get new people trained to at least that level to help our smaller departments throughout the county.

The cost of that class through DMACC is $1,900 per person.” Robinson asked for $8,000 from the County, and said he would match that with funds within his budget. He added those taking the EMT class would have to pay for it upfront, complete and pass it, and would then be reimbursed.

“We are hoping to start the class next month. We have the registration link out right now trying to recruit individuals. Several departments have reached out and said they have people who want to do it.

For these smaller departments that’s a lot of money to come up with for one or two people. It would be on a first come first serve basis.” All three Supervisors strongly supported providing the funding.
