THE Star’s article on national hero Datuk Paul Kiong is timely, in light of the nation celebrating our 67th National Day recently as well as the upcoming Malaysia Day ( “Of fear, valour, and espionage”, The Star, Sept 8; online at bit.ly/star_valour ). As Datuk Paul rightly said, no one should doubt the patriotism of non-Malays who fought in the defence of Malaysia’s sovereignty.

A large number of non-Malays, who served in the police and military, fought alongside with other Malaysians, with many being wounded or killed in action..
