“But that is the service expected from councillors, who should therefore perform the full expectations with efficient services, and remembering the council plays an important in nation building,” he added.Dr Sim, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, said this during the swearing in of Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) councillors at Wisma Sanyan here today.Dr Sim said SRDC has a long history dating back to 1952.



However, he noted that there was not always funds to upgrade SRDC areas due to the assessment rate remaining the same since the 1970s.As such, he told the council to obtain funds from other sources to develop areas under its jurisdiction, which are getting more and more populated.The ceremony saw 32 councillors sworn in for the 2025-2028 term.

They are Michael Dee; Mohamad Arhman Ahmad Mahdi; Johnny Sain; Leo Albert Tong; Sofia Ujang; Minggu Angga; Denis Atut; Collin Tinting @ Gindien; Tay Yeong Soon; Yong Ing Hock; Kevin Lau; Wong Sing Ing; Johnny Ganing; Jeksen Chuban; Loi Kwong Lee; Chieng Siew Yee; Baling Sumbang; Jimmy Patrick Yiu; Wong Hua; Dr Ling Sienngan; Teo Ming Pau; Hii Bee Choon; Stanley Ngelambai Majang; David Entulu; Henry Kanyan Vincent Rawing; Lawrence Lun Lupang; Binit Madang; Dr Gavin Man Gima; Stanley Kuda Jabat; and Morris Johnny.Sempurai Petrus Ngelai and Wong Ching Yong were reappointed as chairman and deputy chairman respectively.Eleven of the councillors are from Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), seven from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), and six from Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) respectively.
