Councillor’s second phone to be seized over BJP member’s suicide

Surat: Amid allegations that certain financial transactions may have led to the suicide of BJP politician Dipika Patel , Surat police have found important clues that hint at issues in her relations with BJP councillor Chirag Solanki . According to police sources, Dipika had threatened to die by suicide a couple of months ago. Meanwhile, after seizing the mobile phones of Dipika Patel and Chirag Solanki, police will seize a second phone belonging to Solanki on Thursday.

Solanki was questioned for three hours at Althan police station, with his statement being recorded on camera. This is the second time Solanki was questioned. "We checked Solanki's bank transactions and found financial dealings between them.



They are not for a large sum. Both had invested in land jointly, but no evidence of any dispute related to it was found. We are yet to recover Patel's bank account details, which will be provided to us on Thursday.

We have taken the data from the phones of Patel and Solanki for analysis and sent it to the FSL. We will also seize another mobile belonging to Solanki," a senior official said. "She was emotionally attached to Solanki and would call him frequently.

On the day of the incident, she called him many times. It seems she was unhappy about some issue with Solanki. The evidence we found hints at tense relations," said an official.

Meanwhile, the investigation has been handed over to Khatodara police inspector B R Rabari. It was earlier being done by Althan police inspector N H Brahmbhatt. Police also checked whether Solanki had gone to Patel's home wearing surgical gloves and whether Solanki had promised Patel a councillor's ticket for Rs 2 crore.

"We checked CCTV footage and found that he did not wear surgical gloves. No evidence of any large transaction was found," a police official said.
