Council update on bike-riding balaclava gangs ban in Nuneaton town centre

It would not impact all cyclists - only those suspected to be causing trouble

Council officials are looking into the responses over plans to ban nuisance cyclists, scooter riders and skateboarders from riding through Nuneaton and Bedworth town centres. It launched a public consultation into the proposed new new Public Space Protection Order (PSPO. Within the PSCPO, people could be asked to dismount if they are cycling, skateboarding, scootering or using similar devices if they are 'riding in a malicious and/or dangerous manner as to cause harassment, alarm or distress to any person within that area.

' It is not a ban on all cyclists using the town centre, just those thought to be or causing a nuisance. It is a joint plan by both the council and police. There have been a rise in reports about nuisance riders in recent months. It is not the first time that a cycle ban zone has been mooted but the new PSPO has been drawn-up to provide a permanent solution to the issues. CoventryLive asked the borough council for an update on the public consultation and an update on when the PSPO is set to be discussed at the Town Hall.
