The demolition of a community centre and building of 28 flats has been given further approval following the inclusion of extra conditions. Brighton and Hove City Council is due to knock down Portslade Village Centre next year following the approval of the application in June. A Section 106 agreement has now been added to the plans, outlining the council’s obligation to designate 40 per cent of the housing as affordable, create local employment opportunities and make financial contributions towards biodiversity, among other terms.
READ MORE: Funding secured for old town hall housing development A community centre is also being built as part of the plans along with an outdoor play court with a multi-use surface for different sports. It is a council development under its New Homes For Neighbourhoods programme which has already created 72 new homes in the city. The application attracted 26 objections from the public.
Concerns were raised about the increase in parking and fears the area might not be able to accommodate the families which move into these homes..
