On the day it was launched to the public, one of the brains behind Brisbane ’s Metro has admitted its name is confusing and could be changed. The Metro — which is utterly dwarfed by its 303-station Paris namesake — has begun operating its electric bus services between Eight Mile Plains and University of Queensland in St Lucia on Monday. The route includes nine stops in total, including Garden City shopping centre, Griffith University and Princess Alexandra Hospital across the city’s south.

When in full operation at a date to be determined, the Metro will run two routes — Roma St (Brisbane CBD) to Eight Mile Plains and, starting in the north, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (Herston) to UQ.
Unlike the 14-line Paris Metro, the Brisbane version doesn’t include a huge network of underground train stations that stretches to all corners of the city. The comparison hasn’t been lost on the council, with its transport chair Ryan Murphy admitting on Monday the Metro moniker had caused “some confusion”. “We’re having a good look at the name at the moment .
.. But ultimately, we’re not obsessed with the name,” he was quoted by Brisbane Times .
The Metro buses are double the length of a standard bus and have onboard WiFi and USB charging ports..
