Coronation Street icon Geoffrey Hinsliff has died. The veteran actor, who played Don Brennan on the cobbles from 1987 until 1997, has passed at the age of 87. His cause of death is not yet known but it's reported he died earlier this week.

Fellow Corrie star Helen Worth, who plays Gail Platt, has paid tribute to the star. She said: “Geoff was a lovely, quiet man who will be sadly missed by us all. "His partnership with Lynne Perry was something rather special and they gave the viewers huge pleasure for many years.

” Geoffrey's character Don was a huge villain on Corrie, with several explosive storylines during his decade on the soap. One showed him kidnap Mike Baldwin's wife Alma and drive the car into a canal. Although he survived, he later tried to kill Mike by running him over, but his car crashed into a viaduct and exploded, killing him in the process.
