Sherrie Hewson is hoping ITV series Benidorm will make a comeback, seven years after it came to an end. In the drama, the 74-year-old took on the role of Joyce Temple-Savage, the no-nonsense manager of the Solana hotel. In 2018, the sitcom creator Derren Litten announced that the series at the time would be its last after 21 years.
In a new interview, Sherrie expressed her hopes of a potential revival, stating: "It's a possibility and that would be wonderful because we all miss it desperately." The actress has also previously voiced her wish to return to Coronation Street , despite claiming she was abruptly written out. Sherrie portrayed corner shop manager Maureen Holdsworth from 1993 to 1997, and later in 2006 for a brief appearance.
Her character was involved in numerous dramatic storylines, primarily revolved around her love life, which included four marriages. Sherrie says it was not her decision to leave the soap, and claims she was told the news on the same day she had eye surgery. Recounting the experience on the YouTube show Girl Talk with Melanie Blake in 2021, she said: "I came off after finishing the scene and I was a little bit scared, because I didn't know what had happened to my eye and someone said, 'Can you go and see the producer?' "I went to his office and opened the door and he said, 'Don't sit down.
Just to let you know that I've decided not to carry on with your character'. "'And, when you go downstairs there'll be press everywhere, because they know, but don't speak to them, it's all been done'." Speaking further on Best Magazine's Suddenly Single podcast, Sherrie shared why the waterbed scene with her on-screen husband Reg Holdsworth, played by Ken Morley, remains memorable for her.
She said: "He was running around with no clothes on apart from a towel, but off camera, he dropped the towel in front of me." She jokingly added: "That's why I've been single for 16 years - that picture is still in my head now!". Sherrie has been married twice before, firstly to Hector Blamey followed by Ken Boyd.
