The 73 year old star, who dedicated half a century to the ITV soap, left Weatherfield in tearful scenes on Christmas Day, but whispers suggest this legend of the street will grace our screens again. Show bosses are reportedly keen on having Helen step back into Gail's shoes for special guest appearances on the hit ITV soap, reports the Manchester Evening News . Iain McLeod, executive producer, revealed: "Helen and I have had a conversation where she's said, 'There might be times in my future where I'll come back'.

" Iain expressed his enthusiasm for Helen's potential reappearances, mentioning: "If there's a big storyline going on with the Platt family, she might want to come in and play a role in that. We certainly wanted to leave the door open so that was possible. We wanted that to still be on the cards.

" The producer believes Helen popping in occasionally would delight fans. He said: "It will be a real treat for viewers if the opportunity arises for Helen to pop in here and there. She could play a role in some big moments.

" With an astonishing five decades on the cobbles, Helen has lived through the soap's epic sagas, like her character's tumultuous union with notorious Richard Hillman, portrayed by Brian Capron. Iain reflected: "Helen had been a big part of Corrie's success. We wish her all the very best.

" In an emotional final scene, Gail tied the knot with Jesse Chadwick and shared heartfelt exchanges with her offspring David, Sarah, and Nick before departing the iconic street. After her last episode aired, Helen took to social media to express her gratitude towards her supporters over the years. She shared: "Hello, all of you.

It's wonderful to have this opportunity to say, ta ta. It's been a fabulous 50 years, and I just wanted to thank all of you, some of you who may have been watching for 50 years. Is there anybody? And those of you who've been watching for a few years.

Thank you. Thanks for coming on the journey with me. I've had a wonderful time.

I've loved it all." "All the stories, and of course, working with the wonderful Platts, which, for me, is what it's all about. And there'll be more Platt stories, and I hope you'll be watching.
