Surat: After the explosion at the illegal firecracker factory in Deesa, Katargam and Varachha police raided two shops and seized firecrackers worth Rs 3 lakh. The accused were operating without the necessary permissions and licences. Police seized the crackers and disconnected the electricity connections of the shops.
Both accused persons were booked for endangering human lives and negligent conduct with respect to explosive substances. In the first raid, Varachha police discovered that Haresh Babariya had stored firecrackers on the first floor of a complex in Modi Maholla. Police raided the place and found 114 types of firecrackers, worth Rs.
1.21 lakh. When police asked for his permission and bills for the crackers, Babariya failed to produce them.
Police did not see any type of fire extinguisher, sand or water buckets in place for a fire emergency. In the second raid, Katargam police raided Shivkrupa Firecrackers in Rajlaxmi Complex. The owner, Rajesh Gupta, failed to produce a valid SMC licence.
He had a fire NOC but did not have a functional automatic fire-control system. Gupta did not have a permit to store the firecrackers. When police checked his shop, he had stored 44 types of crackers worth Rs 1.
80 lakh. Police seized the crackers and sealed the premises after disconnecting the electricity connection. Both Gupta and Babariya were booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 125 and 288 and relevant sections of the Explosives Act for endangering human lives and negligent conduct with explosive substances.
