Cops net 1.5kg of mephedrone in 2 seizures, 5 held

Surat: Crime branch sleuths seized 1.5kg of the illegal drug mephedrone, which is known by the name ‘MD', worth Rs 1.53 crore, in two separate seizures and arrested five persons on Saturday.

During a patrol, police arrested Tamir Shaikh and Sahil Diwan, residents of Kosamba village in Surat district, on Hazira Sayan Road. Police seized 973g of MD from them, worth Rs 97.37 lakh.



On seeing the cops, the accused dropped the drugs on the road and fled into a sugarcane field but were chased down and apprehended. In the second case, Irfan Pathan, Tausif Sha and Ashfaq Qureshi from Sachin were nabbed at the Kapletha checkpost. Police seized 554.

82g of MD, worth Rs 55.48 lakh, from them. Police also seized Rs 53,750 in cash and a car from them.

The three had allegedly bought the drug consignment from a person in Mumbai and were bringing it to the city to sell..
