Pune: A team of the Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch on Saturday thwarted a robbery attempt by a gang at a petrol pump in Alandi and arrested four suspects, including two externed criminals , in Dighi. The team recovered a pistol gun lighter, three billhooks, six cellphones and two motorcycles from the spot. Two accomplices of the suspects are on the run.
Among the four arrested people, two were externed from the Pune district limits for two years in March. Senior inspector of the anti-extortion cell of the Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch, Devendra Chavan, said on Sunday night, he and his team were checking the externed criminals entering the city. Police constables Pradip Pote and Kiran Jadhav received a tip-off about a gang preparing to rob cash from a petrol pump.
The team laid a trap at Adarshnagar Colony in Dighi. "We nabbed three suspects namely Arjunsingh Bhada (22), Roman Mulla (20), both of Dighi and Sohail Mirza (22) of Vishrantwadi. Their three accomplices fled from the spot," Chavan said.
Later, the fourth suspect, Akash Salvi (22), was also arrested from Dighi, he said. "The suspects confessed to planning to rob cash from a petrol pump in Alandi," the officer said. Chavan said all four suspects have cases of attempted murder, robbery and vehicle theft against them.
"The suspects Mirza and Mulla were externed in March last year," Chavan said..
