Microsoft has begun rolling out a new version of the Copilot app to all PCs enrolled in the Windows Insider Program. It adds two major new features: Copilot Vision and file search. “We are beginning to roll out an update for the Microsoft Copilot app on Windows via the Microsoft Store which introduces Copilot Vision on Windows and file search,” .
“This Copilot app update (version 1.25034.133.
0 and higher) is beginning to roll out across all Insider Channels via the Microsoft Store. Copilot Vision on Windows will first roll out to Insiders in the U.S.
, and file search will roll out to Insiders worldwide. The above-mentioned features are gradually rolling out so not all Insiders will get the update right away.” Sign up for our new free newsletter to get three time-saving tips each Friday — get free copies of Paul Thurrott's Windows 11 and Windows 10 Field Guides (normally $9.

To access this feature, open Copilot in Windows 11 and click the “Vision” (glasses) icon in the composer to the right of the “Talk to Copilot” (microphone) button, and then select the window you wish to share. File search works as you’d expect: You can ask Copilot to find and open files on your PC–it currently works with most file types, including Office document formats–and then ask it questions about their contents.
Microsoft notes “Can you find my resume”, “Open the trip planning doc I was working on last week”, and “Look at my budget file and tell me how much I spent on dining last month” as examples. You can configure Copilot’s ability to access, retrieve, and read your files in the app’s settings under Permissions. As noted in the quote above, this new app version is rolling out gradually so you may not see it immediately.
