According to sources, the accused, identified as Girish Chandra Behera, senior secretary of the cooperative society, had allegedly misappropriated Rs 5.8 lakh of the compensation money meant for 38 farmers of Durgadevi area who had suffered crop loss during 2021-23.

A case (2/2025) was registered with Balasore Vigilance police under Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Behera has been remanded to judicial custody.
