Controversial plans for dozens of homes in picturesque village

Plans have been submitted for dozens of homes in a picturesque Wiltshire village.

Dunmoore Properties Ltd has lodged a planning application to build 30 homes on land west of Wilcot Road in Pewsey. The proposal is controversial with villagers who feel building on this site could cause road safety issues as it would be access by a 50mph road. Others have complained that the land is outside the areas of Pewsey earmarked for development and would negatively impact the North Wessex Downs Area National Landscape in which it sits.

In 2021 a proposed 50-home scheme was refused by Wiltshire Council and a subsequent application to build 30 homes was also dismissed in 2022. The applicant says the latest plans are “appropriate” for the area and would create 12 affordable homes.

A design and access statement said: “The overarching concept is to create a place that is recognisably appropriate to the rural edge of Pewsey with a multi-functional green-blue infrastructure strategy. “The development will provide a mix of housing types to create a broad social spectrum of society through inclusive design.”.
