Work is well underway to build a new "state-of-the-art", all-weather football pitch. Construction is taking place to develop the 3G floodlit pitch at Top Park on Bolton Road West in Ramsbottom. The project will also see improvements to the changing pavilion, an extension of the car park, and a play area refurbishment.
The Football Foundation has supported the development with a £1m grant, alongside £450,000 in matched funding from Bury Council. The council is also funding a £50,000 refurbishment of the play area and ball zone. Works are set to continue until late spring of next year.
As a result of the construction, there is no direct access to the playing field from the main entrance on Bolton Road West, but improvements have been made to the informal footpath from Ramsbottom Cemetery for pedestrian access. Cllr Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, climate change, and operations, said: "This will be a fantastic high-quality football facility for the benefit of Ramsbottom and North Bury. "It will also provide improved community facilities for a wide range of users.
"A recently completed 3G pitch in Radcliffe is now being used by more than 70 clubs and we are hoping for the same here at Top Park." Cllr Gareth Staples-Jones, deputy cabinet member, added: "This new facility will also support well-being and healthy lifestyles and give young people better opportunities for physical activity at a safe and well-maintained modern facility.".
