Construction of a 132-house development could begin as early as next month. The Lever Valley development in Little Lever will see a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes being built. The works will take place on the former Tarmac Building Materials site off Stopes Road, near to the border with Bury.
Construction company Taylor Wimpey will build the houses, having bought the site off the Harworth Group last year. Now, the developer says the site "has been cleared", with groundworks due to start in the "next couple of weeks" and construction of the first plots to begin towards the end of April or the beginning of May. A street scene (Image: Taylor Wimpey) Cllr Liam Barnard, of Little Lever, gave his thoughts on the development.
He said: "We need more houses, that is a given in the UK, there are not enough houses, building them is a must. "The sites they use, we need to be careful how we use them, but picking a brownfield site such as this is better than using greenfield land. "It should be a much bigger percentage, especially in Little Lever, where people are struggling to get social housing. "I personally think it should be a higher percentage going to social housing." Plans for the site (Image: Taylor Wimpey) He added: "It will be losing land that dog walkers like to use, but it is preferable to use brownfield than greenfield, which is better quality land.
" Taylor Wimpey says all homes are designed with energy efficiency in mind, featuring solar panels, EV chargers, and triple glazing. The development will also feature public open space and a play area once completed to create a natural meeting space for the community. Sam Evans, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey Manchester, said: “We are delighted to be bringing a brand-new community to Little Lever this summer.
"The development will not only provide residents from around the area with a great selection of homes, but also a brand-new and family-focused community. "Future residents here can also benefit from fantastic transport links around the North West and beyond, with the Moses Gate and Farnworth train stations as well as the M60 and M61 are nearby. “We encourage anyone looking to make a move to Little Lever to register their interest and get in touch with the Taylor Wimpey sales team to find out more about the homes that will be available.
