Constitution under threat, citizens must be ready for sacrifice to save it: Kharge

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge accused the BJP government of undermining the Constitution on the 76th Republic Day, highlighting assaults on institutions and minorities. Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the Constitution, and MP Abhishek Singhvi criticized the government's monarchical tendencies that threaten India's republic status.

Mallikarjun Kharge (File photo) Wishing the country on the 76th Republic Day , Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said the Constitution is under a serious assault under BJP govt, with institutions being degraded, opposition netas being targeted, minorities being assaulted and "secular" politicians being tarnished by propaganda. He said citizens should be ready for sacrifice to save the Constitution as "every sacred tenet of the Constitution is being shredded into pieces by an authoritarian regime". Kharge further said a tendency to impose "one nation, one party" on 140 crore different people.

Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also issued statements wishing the citizens and vowing to protect the Constitution. Party MP Abhishek Singhvi said, "It is truly unfortunate that the word 'Republic' is slowly losing its significance..
