Gardai believe they know who was responsible for the death of little Kyran Durnin but don’t yet have enough evidence to arrest them. A day after officers launched a murder hunt over the disappearance of the child, sources told the Irish Mirror investigators suspect the main person of interest is being protected by key associates. One said last night: “There is a conspiracy of silence to protect them.
The only way they will be arrested is if one of the people protecting them cracks and talks to the investigation team.” Read more: Gardai launch murder investigation in connection with disappearance of 8-year-old boy Kyran Durnin Sign up to the Dublin Live Newsletter to get all the latest Dublin news straight to your inbox. Kyran, who has two siblings, was six when he was last seen in May 2022.
He was reported missing from his home in Drogheda, Co Louth, on August 30 last but gardai fear he may have been dead for more than two years. His remains have not been found. Because of the lack of evidence, sources claim the investigation – formally upgraded from a missing person probe to a murder inquiry on Wednesday – is likely to be long and complex.
One said: “The team is working night and day to solve this and also to find Kyran so he can be given a proper burial.” Kyran is described as being 3ft 3ins in height, with a medium build, brown eyes and brown hair. When last seen, he was wearing a navy zip-up windbreaker and black runners.
A Garda spokesman said: “Investigating gardai now believe Kyran is missing presumed dead. A murder investigation has been commenced.” Officers are appealing to anyone who has any information to contact Drogheda Garda station on 041 987 4200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
