Article content Conservative Party of Canada candidate Michael Kram has officially kicked off his campaign with the goal of hanging on to the Regina–Wascana seat in the April 28 federal election. The incumbent in the southeast Regina riding opened his campaign office last weekend at 2535 Broad St., but Kram said his team already had boots on the ground prior to the election being announced on March 23.
“The strategy is the same in every election campaign, which is getting out there and talking with people and listening to their concerns and having good conversations on the doorstep about why the Conservative Party’s election platform and policies are best for Regina-Wascana and best for the country,” said Kram at his campaign office on Tuesday morning. Kram unseated longtime Liberal Party MP Ralph Goodale in the 2019 election. The Regina native will look to keep the riding blue as he goes up against former Saskatchewan Liberal leader Jeff Walters .
Also running in Regina-Wascana is Kimberly Epp from the Green Party of Canada and Peter Bruce from the People’s Party of Canada, according to the listed candidates on their respective party websites. Kram is hoping his five-year track record representing Regina–Wascana will resonate with voters, along with the opportunity to elect a new prime minister — Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre — after a decade under the Liberals’ Justin Trudeau. “The cost of living is definitely the biggest issue in this election campaign,” Kram said, adding that the carbon tax, deficit spending and the Liberal Party’s policies over the past 10 years are components that affect affordability.
“The second component is Donald Trump’s tariffs, which have become a more recent threat. So when you combine the two of those together, it all bundles into the issue of the cost of living for people.” Kram earned a bachelor of science degree (majoring in computer science) and a bachelor of arts degree (majoring in economics) from the University of Regina.
He previously worked in the information technology sector, where he developed software solutions for the private sector and government. “I ran and lost in 2015 but it was a good experience, and I was fortunate enough to be elected for the first time in 2019,” he said. “I would be more than honoured to have another opportunity to serve another term representing this area in the House of Commons.
