Paddy Pimblett has reminisced over what happened after Conor McGregor watched his debut in Cage Warriors. On Saturday night at UFC 314, ‘The Baddy’ will return to the octagon in the biggest fight of his career inside the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, USA. However, while Tom Aspinall is adamant Pimblett will finish Michael Chandler , the Liverpudlian knows he needs to be on his A game to get the job done.
With massive fights on the horizon, claiming the victory is of paramount importance for the submission specialist. Paddy Pimblett watched Conor McGregor kick the wall after his Cage Warriors debut On July 6, 2013, at Cage Warriors 56, inside The Forum in Kentish Town, London, UK, Paddy Pimblett beat Florian Calin via unanimous decision, with Conor McGregor watching on from the crowd. Later that night, the pair met up to watch UFC 162, where one of the biggest upsets of all time occurred, much to the dismay of ‘The Notorious’.
In an interview with One on One, he explained: “I had my Cage Warriors debut and Conor had just been signed [by the UFC]. So, Conor was there when I had my debut. He was in Phillip Mulpeter’s corner when he finished Warren Kee.
“I’ll never forget, it was the night Anderson Silva got knocked out by Chris Weidman , and I watched it with Conor, John Kavanagh , Danny Robberts, and a couple of others. “Conor, after Anderson got beat, he was a big Anderson fan, I’ll never forget him leg kicking the wall. I thought, ‘He’s f—— sick’.
“I only knew of him at the time, I’d watched some of his highlights. That was my Cage Warriors debut, and he had his UFC debut a couple of weeks later. “I’ll never forget meeting him and seeing him there.
It was mad because he blew up to a new stratosphere when he had his debut, and I felt like I had a similar trajectory. I was in Cage Warriors for a long time, then when I had my debut in the UFC, it all went wild.” Conor McGregor ‘interested’ in Paddy Pimblett vs Michael Chandler In the years since that night, both men have become superstars, with McGregor conquering two weight divisions in the UFC, while Pimblett has cemented his status as a fan favorite.
While they once watched a massive main event together, they could now potentially headline against each other in a monstrous showdown. Having proven themselves as two of the greatest trash talkers in the sport, the build-up to a potential contest would undoubtedly entertain. Now, McGregor has teased a fight with the Pimblett vs Chandler winner .
