Pune: Former Union minister Prakash Javadekar on Sunday said Congress did not fulfil its promises in states it was in power and the party's leaders were making tall claims about welfare schemes in Maharashtra. "Among the alliance members of Maha Vikas Aghadi , only Congress has govts in three states. Many of the promises Congress made there were not fulfilled.

Their ministers came here and made false claims in Maharashtra ahead of polls," he said while speaking at a press conference. According to Javadekar, Congress has not performed its duties as the ruling party in Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana. He said the party had promised to provide one lakh jobs every year in Himachal Pradesh.

In reality, he said, they dissolved 1.5 lakh govt positions and decided not to recruit for two years. Javadekar said the party's other promise was to provide the old pension, but on the ground, even regular salaries were not being paid on time.

"Similarly, they had guaranteed a monthly allowance for the unemployed, but no such payment has been made to any youth," he said. Congress had guaranteed a monthly unemployment allowance of Rs3,000 to two lakh youths, he said, but nothing was delivered. "They agreed to give women a monthly pension of Rs2,000, but it hasn't been paid in the past two months.

In Telangana, neither the unemployment dole nor the women's pension was provided. Thus, the guarantees of Congress and Maha Vikas Aghadi are essentially a declaration of deception, Javadekar said. He also refuted the allegation of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi that monopoly in the country's industry was benefiting only certain businesses.

"The number of startups has gone up from 400 in 2014 to 1,40,000 in 2024," he said. According to Javadekar, MVA falsely campaigned during the Lok Sabha elections that "the Constitution would be changed and reservations would be abolished". "But now people have realised the falsehood.

The reality is that Congress was the one that undermined the Constitution in this country. In 1975, during the Emergency, they curtailed freedom of speech, freedom of association, freedom of opposition and political parties' operations," he said..
