RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Day one of the last Dreamville Festival in Raleigh is over, but it will not be the last music festival at Dix Park.

The City of Raleigh announced this week that city leaders are working with Dreamville organizers to bring in a new event. For longtime fans of Dreamville, the news is bittersweet. Jocelyn Jones and Sharicka Reddic have been to every Dreamville festival, coming up from Atlanta each year.

"We love J. Cole. We love the music, the people, the vibes,” Jones said.

“We stay in the same hotel; we take our same little walk every year. So it's nostalgic.”For both of them, Dreamville is special.

"We're coloring, playing ping pong, things like that. It's..

.family oriented, very peaceful,” Reddick said. They could not miss its last year.

"We're really sad because it's like, we look forward to this every year,” Reddick said.Dreamville's last year prompted some people to come for the first time."This being my favorite artist, somebody that changed my life, I knew I had to make it my own to come here,” said Ronnie Axson, who came from Cleveland.

Axson grew up in a dangerous part of Cleveland, Ohio, and he said J. Cole’s music changed his attitude about life."I took that initiative to not make excuses for myself.

And to this day, I'm still the only male in my family on my mom's side to graduate from college,” he said. While this weekend does mark the end of Dreamville, the City of Raleigh will bring a new music festival to Dix Park. People hope it will build on the community Dreamville created.

“We would love for it, maybe a different Dreamville atmosphere, maybe. I do understand that this is up, you know, at this point, but we we're hoping for something, you know, similar,” Reddick said.Axson added, "Something just a little more positive for the ear.

You know, empowering people to do great in life. I feel like that's the type of lineup I would like to see.".
