Chemical Teacher of the Year -- On Oct. 23, St. Michael chemistry teacher Lorenzo Foster received the Southwest Region ACS Award at the Southwest Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society for his contributions to chemistry education.

Presented on Oct. 23 at the Southwest Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Waco, Texas, the award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to chemistry, chemical engineering, or chemical education within the region. Foster, in his 15th year of teaching, instructs Chemistry I College Prep, Chemistry I Honors and Chemistry II Advanced Placement/Dual Enrollment.
During his eight years at St. Michael, Foster’s students have consistently exceeded state and national averages on the AP Chemistry exam . Foster, a Shreveport native, began his teaching career at Capitol High School in Baton Rouge.
He holds a bachelor of science in microbiology with a minor in chemistry from LSU. Outside the classroom, Foster has served as an AP Chemistry Exam reader for the Educational Testing Service, assisting in the evaluation of standardized exams. He has also worked as an instructor for the Princeton Review’s Medical College Admission Test preparation course, helping students prepare for medical and science careers.
He volunteers with the 15 White Coats Organization, supporting students in their preparation for the MCAT. WBR Garden & Civic Club -- On Oct. 8, the West Baton Rouge Garden & Civic Club toured the private garden and pond of Charbel Harb, (Harb’s Oasis).
