Community 'shocked' as man seriously injured in assault

The Weymouth community has been left ‘in shock’ after an elderly man was airlifted to hospital following a nasty assault on Abbotsbury Road

A man in his 70s was flown to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries to his head and face. Following fast-time enquiries at the scene, a 19-year-old man from Weymouth was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. There has been an increased police presence in the area while enquiries continue and anyone with information or concerns should speak with an officer. It’s just shocking. I hope the man makes a recovery.” Another added: “Oh my god that’s shocking.

I hope he’s going to be okay.” A nearby resident said: “I tried to drive through last night, but the road was closed and has been ever since. There were lots of blue lights.

I really hope the person involves is okay.” Abbotsbury Road, Weymouth major incident (Image: NQ) Residents described seeing around seven police cars, multiple ambulances, an air ambulance and forensics officers in the area of Abbotsbury Road.
