A community has been left shocked after a man was attacked by a machete in a Bolton shop. The incident occurred at the Kentmere Off Licence shop on Kentmere Road, Breightmet, at around 7.50pm when a man was attacked with a machete in front of staff and members of the public, including children.
The machete attack happened on Kentmere Road. (Image: Leah Collins) The victim suffered several injuries including to his head and shoulder and is being treated in hospital. Police said his attacker, a man in his 30s, caused extensive damage to the shop and fled the scene before he was later arrested.

Angela, who is a Breightmet resident , said: “It’s been terrifying to hear about what’s happened, this area is tight knit and everyone knows everyone. “Obviously I don’t think it was right what they did, but to do it in front of children isn’t on, it’s not right and it shouldn’t have happened.
” Another resident described feeling ‘shocked but not surprised’ at the incident and claimed that crime in the area was ‘common’ with police needing to crackdown on anti-social behaviour. Despite the incident, the shop is open for business and operating as normal. The shopkeeper described the incident as ‘terrifying’.
Speaking to The Bolton News one worker said: “It’s terrifying what has happened. “There was only one member of staff in the building at the time of the attack.” A man in his 30s was arrested on Sunday afternoon by firearms officers, on suspicion of attempted murder.
He remains in custody for questioning. Detective Inspector Lee Shaw, the SIO from Wigan CID, said: “The incident was witnessed by people in the shop, including children who must have been extremely frightened. “The incident has been captured on CCTV, which shows the suspect swinging a large machete with blatant disregard of various members of the public close to him.

A community is reeling following a savage machete attack in Breightmet this weekend, in which a man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
