A community group will be raising awareness of sight loss at a town centre event. Spalding Lions Club will be meeting in Hall Place today (Saturday, October 5) from 9.30am to 2pm.

World Sight Day is held each year to shine the spotlight on the importance of eye health globally. Lions vice president Julie Grant said: “People who have experienced sight loss will be available to chat to. “Hopefully they will bring some guide dogs to share what it is like to live with a sight disability.

“Our lion mascot will also appear during the day.” Earlier this year, the club presented a cheque for £500 to Boston and Spalding Guide Dogs for the Blind where they met Dennis Pearson with his guide dog. These funds were donated to help support people with sight loss like Dennis remain independent.

The group supports causes in the area and abroad and recently donated £500 towards a dream trip for Freddie Betts, a youngster who is battling cancer . Spalding Lions Club welcomes new members and the group meets every first and third Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm at the Constitutional Club, Broad Street in Spalding.
