We've all encountered the irritation of spending ages buffing up our taps to a shine, only for those persistent water marks to re-emerge post-use. Such watermark woes are an accepted norm, particularly if you're dealing with hard water conditions. These markings come about due to minerals like calcium and magnesium that remain once evaporated water has taken its leave - a process forming what we commonly call limescale .
This pesky substance is notorious for cropping up on taps, shower heads, and even worktops. While many cleaning products can tackle these deposits initially, their comeback is often assured. However, one savvy internet guru may have a nifty solution involving something as simple as a tea light candle.

She demonstrated that by simply smearing a tea light over a tap, it creates a protective layer causing water to cascade off without abandoning distasteful residue. In her own words, Beatriz advises: "Here's an easy trick to keep your faucets sparkling.
Simply rub candle wax over the faucet and polish it with a dry microfibre cloth for a smooth, water-repellent finish. You can also use wax paper for the same effect! Both methods create a barrier that helps prevent those stubborn hard water stains, keeping your faucets looking brand new!" The video garnered hundreds of comments, with many expressing admiration. "You're telling me I just needed candle wax the whole time?" one person asked.
Another simply said: "Brilliant!" and a third added: "Genius!" When asked how to remove the candle wax for proper cleaning, Beatriz suggested using white vinegar. Many people likely already have tea lights at home, but if not, they can be purchased at a local supermarket or online. Tesco is selling 100 tea lights for £4, which works out to 4p per candle.
For another cleaning hack, Queen of Clean Lynsey Crombie recommends using lemon to tackle limescale and hard water marks. According to Lynsey Crombie, lemon is effective against limescale and hard water marks. The expert, who appeared on ITV's This Morning, notes that lemons have antiseptic properties and a pleasant scent, making them a suitable cleaning agent.
To remove limescale from taps, simply cut a lemon in half and rub it over the affected area. Leave the lemon on the tap for a while to allow it to work, then rinse it off. This process may need to be repeated.
