Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi visited the Central District on Tuesday to review arrangements for the ongoing polio vaccination campaign. He was accompanied by Additional IG Karachi Range Javed Alam Odho, Deputy Commissioner Central Taha Saleem, UNICEF representative Saud Khokhar, and other government officials. Addressing the residents of Godhra Colony, New Karachi, Commissioner Naqvi stated that he had come in response to reports that some residents were refusing polio drops for their children.
He noted that, unlike these few exceptions, polio eradication campaigns have been successfully conducted in almost all Islamic and other countries around the world. He expressed satisfaction that, thanks to the joint efforts of the Karachi administration and UNICEF representatives, a large number of previously hesitant parents were now actively participating in the campaign and ensuring their children receive polio drops. Responding to suggestions from locals, he announced the formation of a five-member committee, which will include a local religious scholar, to further support the campaign. He also issued directives to the Deputy Commissioner Central regarding this initiative. During his visit, Commissioner Naqvi personally administered polio drops to several children.
Chairman of New Karachi Town, Muhammad Yousuf, assured full support from all Union Councils in the town to make the campaign a success. The event was attended by SSP Central Zeeshan Siddiqui, ADC Central Asim Abbasi, and all Assistant Commissioners of the Central District. Later, the Commissioner also visited heatwave relief camps set up by the administration.
