One of the best moves former Washington Commanders ’ coach Ron Rivera made in his tenure with the team was moving right tackle Sam Cosmi to right guard. In one season, Cosmi transformed himself into one of the leagues best guards. They also filled the right tackle position with former Kansas City Chief Andrew Wiley.

This year, Rivera is gone and coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters are running the show. They knew before the NFL Draft that their target with the No. 2 overall pick was Jayden Daniels, so they needed to build a wall of protection for him.

USA TODAY They signed former Dallas Cowboys center Tyler Biadasz to anchor the middle of the line and communicate protections at the line of scrimmage. He has been good in pass protection and opening holes for the running game. Another free agent signing was former Chiefs guard Nick Allegretti to play on the left side.

Allegretti plays with leverage and strength and thus far this season has been really good at keeping defenders out of the backfield. And finally, they selected left tackle Brandon Coleman in the third round of this year’s draft. They are working Coleman in slowly, but through 36 offensive snaps, he has given up zero pressures and zero sacks.

Last season, the Commanders offensive line was one of the worst in football. Despite giving up five sacks on Sunday, the offensive line is ranked in the middle of the pack. Related: 'Finish!' If they can continue to protect Daniels as he develops within the offense, they could be firing on all cylinders by midseason. They will get a chance to stop one of the best pass rushes in the league when they take on the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.
