He recalled his younger days when he’d 'work out twice a day just to be thin so I could eat,' but as the years passed, a slowing metabolism, knee issues, and fatigue made it harder to stay in shape. Last year, Gaffigan's doctor suggested weight-loss medication, and he didn’t hesitate to try it. ' 'I don’t care; I’ll try it,' he remembers saying, motivated by knee pain and borderline cholesterol.
Surprised by the stigma surrounding it, he decided to be open about his experience. 'It’s odd people are resistant to talking about it,' he said, adding that changing one's appearance or habits isn’t unusual, likening it to people dyeing their hair blonde. 'I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it,' he quips.
'Whatever gets you through.' Gaffigan’s new stand-up special, The Skinny, premieres Nov. 22 on Hulu and dives deeper into his weight-loss journey.
