Columbus Community Hospital (CCH) has announced Angela Fangmeier as the winner of the Sheaf of Wheat Award. The Sheaf of Wheat Award recognizes the vital role that non-nursing staff members play in providing excellent care to patients at CCH. The award is presented quarterly to an employee who has gone above and beyond their job duties to support colleagues, patients and families.
Fangmeier is a charge housekeeper at CCH. She received the award for her exceptional work on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Upon starting her shift, Fangmeier learned the department was preparing for the arrival of premature twins.
Without being prompted, she stepped in to assist nursing staff with setting up the operating room for delivery. Fangmeier’s assistance did not end there — she also helped nursing staff during and after the delivery with other tasks, such as sitting with other newborns, watching the unit’s locked doors and answering the unit telephone. “We would not have had such a good outcome without her,” Fangmeier’s nominator wrote.
“This is not the first time Angela has branched out of her required job duties to help our staff and department in times of need. She shows up to every shift with a positive attitude, and has shown tremendous dedication and trust to our staff and unit.” Additionally, the hospital would like to recognize interpreter Frank Rivero and occupational therapist Trisha Nicolas, who were also nominated for their outstanding contributions to patient care.
Rivero has been recognized for his outstanding patient communication skills, and his dedication to providing culturally sensitive care. His ability to effectively communicate with Spanish-speaking patients ensures that they receive the highest quality of care. Frank's tireless efforts to assist as many patients as possible demonstrate his commitment to providing excellent patient care.
Nicolas consistently goes above and beyond to provide compassionate and effective therapy to her young patients. Beyond her clinical expertise, she demonstrates a genuine commitment to her patients' well-being by providing essential items to families in need. Her dedication to CCH's core values of integrity, compassion, accountability, respect and excellence makes her an invaluable asset to the organization.
Anyone can nominate a non-nursing employee for the Sheaf of Wheat Award, including patients, visitors, nurses, physicians and staff. Nominations can be submitted online at columbushosp.org/patients-visitors/nominate-a-non-nursing-employee .
