On Thursday, the Colorado Buffaloes made a significant statement on the recruiting trail, landing five-star quarterback Julian Lewis. The Carrollton, Georgia product was at one point committed to USC and had other major programs like Indiana, Auburn and Georgia all coming after him. While there were many questions as to how Deion Sanders replaced his son and projected first-round pick Shedeur Sanders at quarterback, Lewis' commitment silenced all of the queries.

As one could imagine, social media was flooded with fans talking about Colorado's latest commitment, and a Colorado legend even chimed in. Former second-team All-American and record-breaking quarterback Kordell Stewart replied to a post of a picture of him and Lewis as a youngster in 2018, expressing how proud he is of Lewis. "I’m a proud man at the moment," Stewart wrote .

"From meeting this young man to now knowing he’s going to the best institution and playing for the best head coach in college football...

" John David Mercer-Imagn Images This wasn't an easy recruiting win for Colorado by any means, as Lewis was committed to USC since Aug. of 2023 before backing off his pledge this past Sunday. On top of that, in-state Georgia was knocking, and the Indiana Hoosiers also had a legitimate chance thanks to Lewis' relationship with quarterbacks coach Tino Sunseri.

According to ESPN's recruiting rankings, Lewis comes in as the No. 2 overall recruit in the country despite reclassifying from 2026 to 2025. He will have some big shoes to fill with Sanders off to the NFL, but having both Shedeur Sanders and Stewart in his corner is certainly a fantastic resource.
