Although the Reds had chances throughout the game, they were never able to reduce the deficit. Colne started brightly with some promising attacks and Keaton Mulvey had two shots blocked in the home penalty area in the first few minutes. But after nine minutes, Abbey Hey took the lead when Rhys Clooney cut in from the right and fired an unstoppable shot into the roof of the Reds’ net.

Colne were stunned by the goal and three minutes later fell further behind when Clooney supplied a through ball for Saul Henderson in the box and he scored from close range. Colne came back strongly with a series of good attacks as Bevan Burey supplied good balls into the home penalty area and Jefferson Goncalves linked well with Jamie Rainford to set up shooting opportunities forcing a series of corners. But after 33 minutes, Clooney broke at the other end with a run into the box and fired home to put Abbey Hey three goals in front.

Minutes later, Colne had no luck when Rainford squared the ball for Sullivan Barker and his 20-yard shot hit the post before being cleared. And on 39 minutes, Abbey Hey added a fourth when Moses Yoak scored with a glancing header at the far post from a high cross with the Reds’ defence stretched. Colne stepped up a gear in the second half with a series of attacks.

But Abbey Hey defended well with some uncompromising strong tackles and home keeper Connor Beard dealt capably under pressure with high crosses from corners. At the other end, Abbey Hey always looked dangerous and on 77 minutes Josh Dickin scored from close range after a series of good crosses. And four minutes later, Jake Forshaw saw his header strike the Colne bar in a let off for the Reds.

Colne continued to look for a breakthrough as Mulvey shot inches past the far post in a good break and Hugo Rodriguez had his shot blocked in the box after Mulvey had set up the chance. And Goncalves tried desperately to reduce the deficit with some determined runs but his shots failed to trouble Beard. With the final whistle imminent, the hosts added a sixth goal as Forshaw scored with a close-range shot into the bottom corner.
