College Football Program Parts Ways With Coach Despite Win In OT

Things needed to change after eight wins in three years.

A college football program is set to take a new direction at head despite late-game heroics by the team on Saturday. Week 11 saw one coach get fired earlier this weekend when Ball State chose to part ways with Mike Neu. Temple earned their third win of 2024 in an 18-15 thriller against FAU (2-8) that ended in overtime.

The Owls improved to 3-7 on the season and 2-4 in the AAC. Per a statement by Temple on Sunday morning, the Owls are parting ways with Stan Drayton. "I would like to extend my appreciation to Coach Drayton for his commitment to Temple University, our student-athletes and the football program over the past three years," athletic director Arthur Johnson said.



"Under his direction, our student-athletes have excelled in the classroom, been outstanding members of the community and Coach Drayton has represented the University with a tremendous amount of integrity and class. I wish him and his family well in their future endeavors." Temple named defensive coordinator Everett Withers as the interim coach.

© Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports Drayton compiled an 8-25 (3-18 in the AAC) record during his three seasons with the Owls. The 53-year-old coach went 3-9 in each of his first two seasons with Temple. Temple will finish their regular season by traveling to play UTSA (5-5) on Friday before hosting North Texas (5-5) on Nov.
