College Football Playoff 2024 projections: Notre Dame out, Nebraska in after Week 2

Hello, and welcome to my weekly College Football Playoff bracket. I’ll be updating every week based on new results. They are based solely on my own opinions and likely will differ from Austin Mock ’s much smarter, scientifically based projections .

Also, be sure to check out David Ubben’s Bubble Watch . Advertisement In a week, I’ve gone from calling Notre Dame “the safest at-large pick in the country right now” to leaving the Irish out of my bracket entirely. Losing at home to a 28-point underdog will do that .



Notre Dame still has plenty of time to prove me wrong, but the Irish don’t have a lot of margin for error against an underwhelming schedule. Some of you will scoff at me having five SEC teams in the top nine seeds, but Texas , which I made my highest at-large squad, won easily at Michigan . Tennessee, the lowest of the five, destroyed NC State 51-10 on a neutral field.

The only one of the group that has shown any cracks so far is Alabama , which visits Wisconsin this week. I didn’t feel great about having only two Big Ten teams last week, and Oregon did not win its way back into my bracket with a close call against Boise State . But I did need someone to replace Notre Dame, so I figured .
