College Drop-out Murdered, Friend Held

Chennai: An 18-year-old youth from Old Nappalayam, Manali New Town, was murdered after a dispute among friends over paying parking fees at Thirumangalam Metro railway station. His dead body was recovered on Monday night from a plot near a godown on Kosappur Road in Avadi City Police limits. The deceased was identified as J Joseph Dilip Kumar, a college drop-out.

He lived with his mother. Madhavaram Milk Colony Police, who initiated investigations into the murder , found that the accused, K Jayam (20), had visited Joseph two months ago at his house and had borrowed Joseph's bike to travel to his home. Jayam and Joseph got acquainted at a gym where they worked part-time as trainers, an investigating officer said.



As over a month and a half passed since Jayam borrowed the bike, Joseph had pestered Jayam to return the bike, to which Jayam responded by saying that he had parked the bike at Thirumangalam metro station and the parking fee amounted to Rs 7000. He said he would arrange the money and take the bike. Meanwhile, on Monday morning, Joseph contacted Jayam over the phone and verbally abused him, which had enraged Jayam.

Jayam invited Joseph to come to Manjambakkam to talk things out over drinks. Around 11.45 pm, when Joseph raised the topic, an argument ensued.

Jayam slammed a beer bottle on Joseph's head and then stabbed him thrice and fled the scene, police investigations revealed. On Tuesday, police arrested Jayam. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
