People in Suffolk are being warned to take care in the freezing temperatures after a cold weather alert was issued for the county. The Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the Met Office have issued the yellow alert that is in place until 9am on Saturday. It comes after the Met Office issued a snow and ice warning for the county ahead of the weekend.
A spokesman for the UKHSA said there could be a "greater risk to life of vulnerable people" as a result of the cold weather. A spokesman for the Met Office has warned that the wintry conditions over the weekend could lead to travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail travel. The spokesman added: "Given the uncertainties, it is quite likely this warning area and start/end times will be refined over the coming days as confidence increases in areas most likely to be impacted.
" On New Year's Day, the county was battered by strong winds and torrential downpours ..
