Cold front brings temperature drop in Killeen, damage in Belton

A brisk cold wind blew through the Killeen-Fort Cavazos area about 8:30 a.m. Monday morning, dropping the outside temperature from the mid-70s to the mid-60s in a hurry. Shortly after 9 a.m., the temperature was down 59 degrees.

According to Meteorologist Steve Fano with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, there was a line of storms about 10 miles wide which brought rain and a brisk cold wind through the area. Damaging winds blew through the Belton area, specifically at the site of the flea market along Interstate 14, according to James Stafford, spokesman for Bell County. One witness said he saw several of the market structures turned over and damaged.

There were reports of power outages in the Belton and Nolanville area. “By noon, the temperature will rise and be back to the mid-70s again,” Fano said. “And, with the dry weather behind it, it looks like mostly clear skies for the rest of the week.

” Fano did stress that a brief cold front will hit the area overnight Tuesday producing some really cold temperatures Wednesday night. “Your area will most likely see temperatures into the high 30s overnight Wednesday,” Fano said. “With the clear dry conditions, the north winds will make it seem more like the middle of November, as well.

” Forecast The skies will be clear and sunny with a high near 77 Tuesday afternoon. West northwest winds will continue at 10 mph, but gusty winds as high as 20 mph are likely. Overnight Tuesday, the low temperature is expected to be around 46 with west southwest winds to continue.

Gusty winds near 25 mph are expected throughout the night. Wednesday’s high temperature will only be in the mid-60s as north winds at 10-15 mph move in. Plan for gusty winds at 25 mph.

Wednesday nights forecast is expected to be clear and cold with temperatures dropping to around 39. Milder north winds will turn around becoming west southwest after midnight. Thursday, it’s back to the 70s with sunny dry conditions and mild southwest winds at 5-10 mph.

The overnight temperature is expected to be around 43 with calm west winds after midnight. Friday and Saturday look to be more of the same pattern with highs in the low to mid-70s during the day and mostly clear conditions overnight with a low in the mid-40s. Sunday, Nov.
