Bleacher Report catches you up on the latest news from the WWE Universe. Rhodes Endorses McGregor Crossover Fans have long entertained the idea of UFC star Conor McGregor turning his attention toward WWE. His combat sports experience and obvious charisma would seemingly make him a natural in wrestling.

Cody Rhodes is among those who'd like to see McGregor get inside the squad circle. "I'll say that one person I'd love to see just dip his toes in the WWE would be Conor McGregor," Rhodes told notable YouTuber The Schmo (via Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News). "We were just talking about Proper Twelve whiskey, and I think Conor should give it a try.

The competition environment at WWE is different from what people might expect — it's so much about who's the most disciplined, the most professional, getting to the finish line, making it to a WrestleMania. "Someone like him, who's competed at the highest level in so many incredible fights, maybe it's time to explore the more entertainment side of sports. I think he'd be great at it.

" Granted, having McGregor debut in WWE probably wouldn't mean as much now compared to a few years ago. The former featherweight and lightweight champion hasn't fought since July 2021, and three of his last four fights ended in defeat. Still, the 36-year-old remains one of the most recognizable fighters signed to the UFC despite his long layoff, so WWE would get plenty of headlines if he were to show up on Raw or SmackDown.

HBK Entertains Dream Matches against Past, Present Stars Shawn Michaels turned 59 in July and has wrestled once since his farewell match against The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVI in 2010. HBK made it clear in an interview with PennLive.com's Sean Adams he's "absolutely" retired as a wrestler and "very comfortable being behind the scenes.

" "It's very important for me, as I look back and I think that I had so many memories," he said. "I really want to have the opportunity to supply those same dreams and aspirations for the young men and women that come through our doors at the Performance Center in NXT." The Hall of Famer at least did entertain some hypothetical dream matches.

Michaels cited AJ Styles, Seth Rollins and Gunther among WWE's active stars. In terms of past legends, he listed off Terry Funk, Harley Race and Eddie Guerrero. "Eddie and I never got in the ring with one another," he said to Adams.

"I think there are always people that you think about, that you would have liked to have had the opportunity to be in there with. But time or circumstances didn't allow it." It's a little surprising in retrospect that Guerrero and Michaels never crossed paths for a singles match.

Their involvement together was limited to two Royal Rumbles. Considering how highly regarded his WrestleMania 21 encounter with Kurt Angle is, HBK could've had a similarly captivating battle with Guerrero. Ford Reportedly 'Resisting' Singles Push Almost from the moment they made their debut as the Street Profits, Montez Ford looked like a star in the making while tag partner Angelo Dawkins was typecast as the one who'd eventually be marginalized.

That's apparently a concern from Ford himself. Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio (via Ringside News' Steve Carrier ) that Ford has been "resisting" a push as a singles wrestler in part because Dawkins "will probably fall into the nowhere land." Speaking to Bleacher Report's Doric Sam in April, Ford and Dawkins sounded happy to maintain the status quo.

"I feel like throughout the years we've never allowed the noise to get to us," Ford said. "..

. Of course, they talk about it all the time with us, singles with him, singles with me, but they're not even looking at the stuff that we're still trying to accomplish as a tag team." Dawkins echoed that attitude.

"Everybody's seen us in singles [matches], so they know what it is," he said to Sam. "They know when that time comes, when we're both in the singles division or whatever, they know we're gonna show out no matter what. But right now, we're focused [on becoming] tag team champions.

" The grass isn't always greener for tag team stars who split off for their own singles runs. Enzo and Cass, The IIconics and Heavy Machinery are recent examples of popular tag teams whose breakups didn't really benefit anybody in the end. For Ford and Dawkins, why mess with what's still a good thing? Listen to Ring Rust Radio for all of the hot wrestling topics.
