In a heartfelt message shared through her Substack, the actress revealed that she has decided to step away from the entertainment industry after more than two decades of being a part of it. Henggeler informed her fans that she recently called her agents and told them she was done.
She explained that she didn’t want to be “a cog in the wheel of the machine” anymore, suggesting that she had grown tired of the constant hustle and pressure that comes with life as an actor. While she didn’t share exactly what her next move would be, she mentioned that she would rather be the machine instead of just working within it. In her post, Henggeler looked back on her career and said that, although acting was the only professional path she had ever known, most of it wasn’t about performing.
Instead, she said, it was more about the constant struggle, the grind, and the uncertainty of waiting for the next big break. She described how actors often survive on “crumbs,” holding onto the hope that each day could be the one where things finally take off — chasing what she called the "golden goose." Recalling one of her earliest TV roles, she joked about only having one word to say in an episode of House — “Sorry.
” She humorously added, “That was it. Genius. Nailed it,” pointing out how tough and unpredictable acting can be.
She also mentioned having roles that were supposed to be recurring but never actually turned into more than one appearance. Henggeler’s acting resume includes roles in movies like Friends with Benefits, Nobody’s Fool, and Feed. On television, she has appeared in shows such as Jane the Virgin, Bones, Working Class, Royal Pains, and Henry Danger, among others.
Her role as Amanda LaRusso, the strong and supportive wife of Ralph Macchio’s character in Cobra Kai, became one of her most recognized parts. Despite stepping away from acting, Henggeler’s fans are wishing her well as she begins a new chapter in her life.
