CM inaugurates projects worth Rs 352 cr in city

Surat: Chief minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated and laid the foundation of projects worth Rs 352 crore of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Diamond Research and Mercantile City (DREAM) city on Friday. In his address to the gathering, Patel stated that Gujarat will lead the path to a developed India, and Surat will play a key role. Surat's significant contribution to the state's economy has led to plans in the upcoming budget to ensure no developmental work in Surat is left pending.

To strengthen sustainable urban mobility, a MoU was signed between SMC and the German organisation GIZ at the event. In this project, renewable energy will be used to run electric city buses. Speaking at the event, the CM emphasised the govt's priority on holistic urban development .



Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi," the state govt is focusing on preserving the rich legacy while accelerating ease of living and development. The CM also applauded the city's cleanliness team and workers for their dedication, making it one of the cleanest cities in India. He emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in conserving water, protecting the environment, and maintaining cleanliness, urging everyone to work towards making the city the cleanest in the country.

He appreciated the "Water Conservation through Public Participation" campaign initiated in the city. "The Government of India's NITI Aayog has launched the "Growth Hub" (G-Hub) initiative to accelerate economic development in selected regions of the country. Under this initiative, the Gujarat govt has begun work with full momentum to implement the economic plan for the "Surat Economic Region," which includes Surat, Bharuch, Navsari, Tapi, Dang, and Valsad districts," said Patel.

"Since 2003, Gujarat was the state providing the highest employment opportunities in the country," he added. Minister of state for home, Harsh Sanghvi, said, "The city is recognised as one of the fastest-growing cities globally. People of Surat are known for turning challenges into opportunities.

The city demonstrated its strength and spirit by overcoming crises like the plague and severe floods. Known worldwide for its diamond and textile industries, Surat has now achieved a permanent top position in cleanliness as well. For this remarkable achievement, all the residents of Surat, sanitation workers, and municipal officials deserve hearty congratulations.
