CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Stresses More Assam-Bhutan Roads

Staff Reporter Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today met Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay separately and discussed ways to strengthen the age-old relations and cooperation between Assam and Bhutan, including the development of regional economy. In their discussion, the Chief Minister and the King focused on strengthening historical ties and advancing collaborative efforts between Assam and Bhutan. The discussion also focused on fostering Bhutan’s development, enhancing the welfare of its people, and promoting broader regional economic development.

and Prime Minister Tobgay laid stress on increased stakeholding on trade and commerce between Assam and Bhutan. And to make that happen, the two emphasized increasing the number of interconnecting roads between Assam and Bhutan from the existing seven. The Chief Minister assured the Prime Minister Tobgay of Bhutan that Assam would extend all cooperation for enhanced connectivity of Assam with the Himalayan Kingdom.



Chief Minister Sarma informed Tobgay that the road connectivity between Kokrajhar and Gelephu is being strengthened under the Assam Mala Project. The Chief Minister took part as a state guest in the 117th Bhutan National celebrations today. Speaking on the colourful ceremony, the Chief Minister said, “It’s a matter of fortune and pride for me that I’m part of this beautiful and mesmerizing celebration.

” Bhutan commemorates the coronation of the country’s first king, Ugyen Wangchuk in 1907 through the celebration of the National Day. This historic event marks the beginning of the Wangchuk Dynasty that has been ruling ever since. The celebration provides an opportunity to honour Bhutan’s cultural heritage, reflect on the sacrifice of its forefathers, and reaffirm the citizens’ devotion to the country’s enduring peace, prosperity, and happiness.
