New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta has asked all departments and agencies to submit the work plan for the next 100 days, six months, and nine months in accordance with their budget provisions. In a multi-department meeting earlier this week, CM told officials that there would be no shortage of funds for execution of work. She, however, added that lapses in the performance of work would be viewed seriously and action would be taken against erring officers.
With the mercury starting to rise, CM issued directions to MCD to take pre-emptive action to prevent fires in the landfills at Bhalswa, Ghazipur and Okhla. Though there was a considerable decline in the number of fires at the three sites in the last 6-7 years, officials said the mountains of garbage were vulnerable, especially during the peak summer when the temperature rises above 45 degrees Celsius. CM also directed MCD and NDMC to crack down on the burning of waste in the open to keep the air quality good.
Necessary steps should be taken immediately to control pollution. The chief minister also issued directions in the meeting to carry out a "high quality" cleaning drive so that the city gets praise from other parts of the country. On Saturday, a massive sanitation drive was launched, and thorough cleaning was carried out on all streets, lanes, flyovers and public spaces.
Officials said cleanliness drives were also being conducted in temples and other religious sites just before the Hindu New Year. "Officials from all departments have been directed to ensure effective implementation of these efforts at the ground level. Instructions have also been issued for the regular cleaning of drains and sewers, as well as for addressing potholes on roads," an official said.
Unauthorised banners and posters were removed from public property, and action was initiated against violators under the Property Defacement Act. In a meeting on Friday, which was attended by senior officers of several departments, CM directed MCD officials to conduct daily field inspections in all municipal wards of the city and effectively address any irregularities identified during these visits. She also asked for the removal of garbage and debris on roadsides, public places and collection points on priority.
"In line with CM's directives, all concerned departments have devised and begun implementing action plans to remove debris from roadsides and complete the cleaning of drains and sewage lines within a fixed timeframe. With coordinated efforts from all departments, Delhi is on track to becoming a clean, beautiful, and well-organised city," govt said in a statement. Officials said CM asked for the formulation of a plan in each ward to identify and relocate the stray animals within 15 days.
MCD veterinary doctors have been told to chalk out plans to control the street dog population. Filling up of potholes before the monsoon season, identification of low-lying areas, and preventive measures to reduce water logging and desilting of drains are other priority works to be completed soon, the CM directed the officials.
