WORCESTER City are set to face off with Wellingborough Town this Saturday (January, 11) in their first game of 2025. It has been a long break for Chris Cornes' men over the winter period - with fixtures called off against Anstey Nomads, Lye Town and Darlaston Town. The Wellingborough game will be the first match for the side in 28 days.

In the reverse fixture with Wellingborough, in early November, Worcester City took a 1-0 win in a late midweek match. A deserved win for City, Dylan Hart's goal from a corner proved the difference on the night. "We put our bodies on the line again," said Cornes after the match.

"We’ve gone and scored six, eight minutes from the end but there was eight or nine minutes added on as well. But the lads have stood firm. "To travel two and a half hours on a Tuesday night when you’ve been at work all day, it’s a testament to the boys and what they’ve got.

What they’ve got in abundance is they’ve got bottle, they’ve got desire and they’ve got heart." Cornes was keen to thank City's travelling support after the fixture as well, with it feeling like Worcester's fans outweighed the home support on the night. "40 or 50 travelled up here tonight from work," he said.

"They've paid their money to get in, it's cost them fuel to get here. So a massive, massive thank you to them as well." The side ran out 5-0 victors thanks to goals from Felix Miles and Zac Guinan, as well as a hattrick from Kyle Belmonte. Following the win, Cornes said: "I thought we were in full control. They never gave up to be fair to them, but yeah it is a good win.

"It is a great performance from start to finish and in our last home game of this year, we are pleased." City currently sit third in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Midlands Division, and hold games-in-hand on every other side sat within the play off places. Wellingborough are also vying for play off competition come the end of the season, sitting just outside the qualification spots in sixth.

The away team are on a three-match win streak and have already played twice in 2025 - recording wins over Anstey Nomads and Boldmere St Michaels. It is likely to be a close-fought affair, as was observed in the reverse fixture. The game will kick off at Claines Lane this Saturday (January 11).
