In the meantime, employees will be tranferred to other locations, Krauss noted.

During the closure, the closest full-service supermarkets for Daniel Island residents are on Clements Ferry Road near Cainhoy and on Long Point Road in Mount Pleasant. Plans to expand the existing Publix store have been in the works since 2017, but the project stalled after the city asked the grocer to include windows, tweak its façade and come back with more renderings.

The Lakeland, Fla.-based company maintained the inclusion of real windows interfered with freezer space, displays and storage. The grocer withdrew its expansion plan in 2019 and submitted a new proposal for a larger replacement store the following year.
