BBC News presenter Clive Myrie has addressed concerns from viewers after they noticed his "drooping eye" during Monday night's bulletin (January 6). The journalist, donning a black suit, white shirt, and navy blue tie, presented BBC News at Six with his right eye fully open but the left appeared half closed. Following a surge of worried Tweets, Clive has reassured followers with an explanation for his appearance, reports the Mirror .

He said: "Happy N.Year everyone and thank you all for your concern over my left eye. It's nothing serious, just an infection.

"I did think about wearing an eye patch, but the boss said no! A bit like Long John Silver. He wasn't having any of it! Cheers." READ MORE: Ted Lasso star 'firmly' rejected by 007 bosses to succeed Daniel Craig Despite the reassurance, viewers continued to express their concern on social media.

One fan said: "Can you confirm Clive Myrie is OK? Clive Myrie's sty looks pretty sore this evening." A second said: "BBCNews, what's the matter with Clive Myrie's left eye?", while a third remarked: "Is Clive Myrie OK? His eye's drooping." Concerns over Clive come after the Mastermind host was recently in the news for not declaring his outside earnings.

The broadcaster, who is also an author of a memoir and host of a travel series, came under scrutiny for not declaring £145,000 earned from corporate events within the past year. This issue arose following BBC director-general Tim Davie's call for on-screen talent to declare external earnings and maintain transparency with quarterly declarations. Addressing the oversight, Clive said: "An apology – I've had several administrative issues, and I didn't fill out the correct paperwork for some of my external public events, so they haven't been published until now.

"I've told the BBC I won't be taking part in any more paid external events in the foreseeable future, beyond a handful of pre-existing commitments, so that this doesn't happen again." We are now bringing you the latest updates on WhatsApp first.
