Brad Brownell secured the first piece in Clemson's offseason rebuild on Wednesday. It's a second-team All-Mountain West forward who stands 6-foot-10 and hits better than 37 percent of his 3-point shots.

CLEMSON — The rebuild of Clemson's basketball roster got underway on April 2 with a commitment from Nevada forward Nick Davidson . The 6-foot-10 junior from Mission Viejo, Calif., was a second-team All-Mountain West selection this past season, posting 15.

8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for the Wolf Pack. He also blocked more than a shot per contest.

Davidson, who was reportedly considering ACC rivals Notre Dame and Virginia as well as Texas and Washington, gives Brad Brownell one frontcourt piece. But he will need more following the departures of Ian Schieffelin and Viktor Lakhin to graduation and Chauncey Wiggins' transfer to Florida State. The only returning pieces from this past season's NCAA Tournament roster are point guards Dillon Hunter and Ace Buckner, and power forward Dallas Thomas.

Buckner and Thomas both redshirted. Clemson is also adding three freshmen, guard Zac Foster, center Trent Steinour and forward Chase Thompson, to the mix. Davidson offers some versatility because he's a career 33 percent shooter from 3-point range.

That includes a 37.5 percent success rate last season. He's also a solid passer at 2.

8 assists per outing. Davidson will have one year of eligibility remaining. Clemson has six scholarships still available to offer transfers in the portal.
